Around this time, two years ago, Covid-19 changed the world. It also changed the way we conducted classes. Exhibitions moved to the online universe. The IB Visual Arts Class of 2022 is fortunate to usher in the return of the physical exhibition. While majority of the works were produced under quarantine and the dimensions of the works are somehow limited due to the constraints space and materials, the quality and creativity are at par with the past exhibitions that have been produced by the artists of the Brent graduating class.

The themes adopted by each student vary from the simple and familiar to the provocative and disturbing. Nonetheless, each curated exhibition will resonate with the concerns of their age, the issues of today and the universal sentiments of humanity. The approaches to expression are also diverse. Some are more explicit, some subtle. The imagery used is unique to every individual artist. Their contexts are as diverse as their personal and cultural backgrounds.

TOUCHED is the title the class chose after deliberating on what word or phrase can embody the overall emotion of returning to face-to-face classes. They wanted a hopeful message that better days are coming. This is the start of reconnecting with people. After the two-year lockdown, they are now in the same space- TOUCHED.

TOUCHED also refers to the overarching intention of the exhibition. Everyone has an objective- to inspire, to ignite action, to wax nostalgic of earlier times, to present truths, to make a commentary. The works of Hanna, Anna, Alon, Joanna, Angie, Tatiana, Akina, Raya, and Gavin, all aim to relate to the audience and make an impact through their works and be TOUCHED.
